The SOLIS bot in brief: humanitarian communication, within everyone's reach
In crisis zones, communication with vulnerable populations is throttled by insecurity, travel restrictions, literacy barriers and overloaded hotlines. Solidarités International built the SOLIS bot to close that gap: a turnkey WhatsApp chatbot that lets people interact with an organisation free of charge, 24/7, by text or voice. It is the first solution of its kind offered by an international NGO.
What the numbers say
In 2025, the SOLIS bot supported more than 250,000 people, with 60,000 users and 535,000 messages sent. 84% of beneficiaries find it more convenient than traditional hotlines, 81% report shorter waiting times.
"When we hadn't received potable water on the agreed timing, I asked the SOLIS bot about the water trucking service. The next day I got a call from the Solidarités team, they would be delivering water the very next day.", A beneficiary in Lebanon
Why organisations adopt it
Inclusion. The voice module lets people ask a question aloud and receive a spoken answer, no reading or writing required, in any language.
Instant broadcasting. Critical updates reach thousands of people in a single click, with 95% reach in Lebanon (70% in Haiti and Cameroon). Communities can also report crises directly to staff, in some cases, 90% of emergency reports are validated within 24 hours.
Measurable savings. A remote survey costs €0.30 against €20+ for a field visit: data-collection costs fall by a factor of 10 to 50. In all, the equivalent of 22 full-time positions of communication capacity freed up.
Emergency onboarding. In a crisis, the bot can be live three hours after a single training session.
Proven adoption
First launched in Lebanon in 2020, the SOLIS bot is now used across Lebanon, Ukraine, Cameroon and Haiti by CARE International, Terre des Hommes, Nabad for Development and the Lebanon Reforestation Initiative.
